Denver Wedding Photographer | Kate & Scotty’s Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion Wedding

Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion Wedding by Denver Wedding Photographer, Simonds Photographic

Starting from the very beginning… Although they did not both grow up there, Kate and Scotty were both born in Atlanta, GA. After putting two and two together, they realized that they had been in the same “room” more than a few times throughout their lives—the 1996 Olympics and the GA Tech vs. LSU Peach bowl for example. They both made the decision senior year to attend school out-of-state at Ole Miss in Oxford, MS.

Freshman year of college, Kate was unable to join her family—for the first time—for Easter break. She took up a friend’s invitation to go home with her to Atlanta and spend the holiday with her family. When she showed up for the 5-hour road trip, there stood Scotty Fuller—a very handsome and vivacious fellow freshman. He was hitching a ride home for the holiday. They spent the entire drive laughing, talking and getting to know each other. Within a few short weeks they started officially dating—and the rest is history!

Seven years later and they finally tied the knot at Grant-Humphrey’s Mansion August 12, 2017.

The beginning of forever
Kate has a bad habit of playing “Nancy Drew”— she can’t help but to snoop and dig. This made it tricky for Scotty to surprise her. Originally, he planned to propose to her in September at an STS9 concert (his favorite band) and had arranged for the band to play one of their songs (By the Morning Sun). Scotty could tell she was onto him so he reevaluated his plan.

The night before they headed to North Carolina for Kate’s annual family beach trip, Scotty took her to see her favorite band (Tedeschi Trucks Band) at Red Rocks. Scotty was live Snapchatting the whole night, but blocked Kate from seeing his story. He would post hilarious selfies with messages like “She has no idea but we’re getting engaged tonight”. After an amazing night of music, they headed home—or so Kate thought.

Scotty had a blindfold and headphones. He told Kate that he had a surprise and to blindfold herself and listen sit back and listen to his playlist. The playlist consisted of many songs relevant to their relationship, including They Love Each Other by The Grateful Dead:

Merry run around, sailing up and down
Looking for a shove in some direction
Got it from the top, it’s nothing you can stop
Lord, you know they made a fine connection
They love each other, Lord you can see it’s true
Lord you can see it’s true, Lord you can see it’s true
He could pass his time around some other line
But you know he chose this place beside her
Don’t get in the way, there’s nothing you can say
Nothing that you need to add or do
They love each other, Lord you can see it’s true
Lord you can see it’s true, Lord you can see it’s true
Its’ nothing, they explain it’s like a diesel train
Better not be there when it rolls over
And when that train rolls in, you won’t know where it’s beenAlthough they did not both grow up there, Kate and Scotty were both born in Atlanta, GA. You gotta try to see a little further

When they got to where they were going, Kate started slowly figuring out where he was taking her. First a familiar and janky elevator, then a walk up some short steps and boom they were outside. She could feel the softness of the roof below her feet—all exciting and terrifying at the same time. Finally the walking stopped and Scotty asked Kate to remove her blindfold and earbuds.

When she looked around, she saw the most epic skyline view of Denver. One you can only see on the rooftop of the first apartment they lived in when they moved to Colorado. Although they had braved terrible management, whole-neighborhood tire slashings and an elevator you never really trusted when you hopped on it— they had an overwhelming amount of good times struggling there together.

He was pretty nervous when he got down on one knee—even forgot to open the ring box at first! When he got the words out, she didn’t hesitate to scream “YES, of course!”.

Then they heard a whisper from across the roof, “Congrats guys we love you!!” Scotty had arranged for their two old neighbors (and dear friends) to come witness and take a few pictures of the big moment.

The next morning they jumped on a plane—with some new bling—and headed to the beach to celebrate with Kate’s extended family!

Thank you both for allowing me to get to know you, capture this epic day in your story, and celebrate you becoming one.
